Chapter 34 The Reeve Confronts a Lady

Reeve Locksley watched the Cheetah leave. He silently escorted his wife to another building. He was upset enough to not think of how it would be wiser to speak with her at home. Before he had a chance to speak with her the Scottish woman had joined them.
"I do hope you enjoyed meeting Lord Chester Cheetah."

"I was a bit startled by him, but I did have a good time."
Of course his sweet wife would say such things.

"Dear husband, this is Lady Agatha Moore, wife of Lord Scott Moore. Lady Agatha, this is my husband Reeve Robert Locksley."

"Does your husband know you entertain such guests in his absence? To think what could have happened to you ladies."
"You needn't worry a mite about it. We ladies were fine. My husband's trusted man servant was here the whole time. Lord Chester Cheetah is a nobleman such as yourself."
Lady Swan had discreetly left to wait for him outside.
"He is not a nobleman such as myself. If you don't want harm to come to yourself-"
"Oh! Is that a threat? Now that you're Reeve you think you can threaten a noblewoman?"
"No. Now that I'm Reeve it is my duty to protect noblewomen."
"I appreciate your concern Reeve Locksley. I just don't understand why you think we needed protection from Lord Chester."
Reeve Locksley may have explained it to her if Lady Agatha hadn't chosen that moment to turn on her heels and head to her home. Perhaps he may have stopped her to explain if his wife wasn't waiting outside. Perhaps he may have let his wife walk home alone while he explained what this woman's husband had not. Instead the good reeve walked his wife home.
